Are You Checked In For Root Canal Treatment? Here’s What To Expect In Your Appointment

If you’re going through or are about to go through root canal treatment, this guide will detail everything you need to know about your appointment. This guide will also help you prepare for what you should do before, during and after root canal treatment.

What is root canal treatment, and what does it involve? The reality about the Root Canal treatment is that it helps to save as much of your decayed or damaged tooth as possible. It will need to be treated to avoid weakening the underlying tissue, which could develop into an abscess. It is a safe, affordable and beneficial form of treatment that will deliver long-term results.

Here’s what to expect through the breadth of a root canal experience.

What Should You Expect Before Root Canal Treatment?

A pre-examination is performed before treatment begins. The dentist will go through your medical history to determine the state of your oral health. As long as there are no abnormalities identified, your mouth should be in a good state to begin root canal treatment.

What Should You Expect During Root Canal Treatment?

Before treating the tooth, a local anesthetic is applied to numb the affected area. Usually, the decayed tooth will form something called Pulpitis. This is infected tissue, which needs to be removed completely before applying the crown, so you’re removed from the dangers of infection. The nerve’s tissue becomes damaged, and bacteria could form, causing abscesses and bone loss.  With nerve damage, your tooth becomes decayed.

Once the pulp is removed, placement begins. The canal is first enlarged to make it easier to apply the filling. The root canal is difficult to fill at first. If you suffer effects such as swelling and temperature, antibiotics will be required. This is the first appointment.

The second appointment will involve removing the temporary filling and apply the root canal filling. The tooth is sealed at this point and helps limit any infections.

A crown is shaped and placed on top to complete the treatment.

What Should You Expect After Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal aftercare is important to ensure the crown settles appropriately. The dentist will typically provide aftercare options to manage pain and soreness. Naturally, continue to brush and floss twice a day and book yourself for regular appointments to keep abnormalities in your root canal to a minimum.
