National Library of Australia
The National Library of Australia is located in Canberra, ACT, and is arguably the country’s greatest library. While in Canberra, don’t miss the Australian Museum. The collection is made up of more than a hundred flags that represent the multicultural nature of the nation. Its exhibitions will have you exploring Australia’s history and culture as you explore it. The museum also includes interactive displays, and you can try your hand at gold panning. The white Carillon Tower, located on Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin, was given to the city in 1963 for its 50th birthday. The tower features three sleek columns and opal chip and quartz, and is home to 55 bronze bells that weigh anywhere from seven kilograms to six metric tons.
This museum houses rare books and manuscripts, including those written by Captain Cook. You can also view original documents from the country’s first prime minister. The collection includes many Australian historical documents and e-papers, and the National Library of Australia Canberra ACT hosts special exhibitions. The gardens offer scenic views, a popular Village Centre, and picnic areas. Whether you’re in the mood for gardening or watching live performances, the National Arboretum is definitely worth a visit. Questacon is another must-visit place in Canberra. The National Science and Technology Centre is located right between the High Court and the National Library. The museum features hundreds of interactive displays and do-it-yourself experiments that will make you understand science better. The museum hosts science shows, special events, guest lectures, and other programs that encourage your child to learn more about the world around him or her. You’ll never be bored in Canberra!
Blundells Cottage is also worth a visit. It’s a historic site, and is open to the public on Saturdays between 10AM and 2PM. This property was constructed in the late nineteenth century, before Canberra became a modern city.
