The National Gallery of Australia is a world-class museum and art centre located on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin in the capital city of Australia. This museum showcases works by world-renowned artists including the infamous Blue Poles by Jackson Pollock and the Ned Kelly series by Sidney Nolan. The gallery has also recently added new galleries featuring contemporary Australian and international art. In addition, the museum has recently undergone a large-scale rehang of almost every piece of art on display. It also houses the largest collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in the world, with over seven thousand works on display. The National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia are also nearby. Visitors can experience experimental performance pieces as part of the Canberra Contemporary Art Space Parkes ACT. These galleries are part of Visit Canberra, so they’re worth a look. Alternatively, you could take in a concert at the Australian National University School of Music. And if you’d rather stay in the city, you could also head to the National Gallery of Australia, which is a mere five-minute drive from the Canberra Contemporary Art Space.

The Canberra Contemporary Art Space is located in the heart of Canberra’s contemporary art scene and has a high-end feel with origami-like entrance. The store’s open-access policy means that any piece of art can be showcased here, as long as it challenges the viewer’s perceptual thinking. The CCAS exhibits both local and national artists and introduces visitors to new ideas and movements.

If you have time, you can also visit the Australian War Memorial. Located at the foot of Mt Ainslie, this world-class museum contains exhibits about wars from WWII to the present, as well as the first World War. Also, don’t miss the National Portrait Gallery, where you can view portraits of famous world leaders, poets, and contemporary figures. There’s something for everyone, including the Infinity Room, an eerie yellow room with black dots. There’s even a cafe on the premises! You may have to pay to see certain exhibits, but the art museum is worth it! The National Gallery is a great way to spend a day with your family.

Questacon, an educational project, began as an Australian National University student’s project and is now one of the city’s key attractions for families. Located at King Edward Terrace in Parkes, Questacon was also gifted to Australia by the British Government for the 50th anniversary of its capital.
